Does Your Precast Darken with Water?

If the precast concrete on your building’s exterior darkens when it rains or when water is applied, consider a trusted protective coating to preserve it.

Presto performed work on a building that needed cleaning first, then sealing nearly a decade ago. The darker areas indicate where water was penetrating the precast during cleaning. After the cleaning process, the precast was sealed with Presto’s LeachStop®, a clear, penetrating treatment designed to help prevent GFRC, precast, concrete and other stone surfaces from leaching minerals onto adjacent surfaces such as the window glass and anodized aluminium window frames. It also helps protect stone surfaces from stain development, water penetration and water erosion while leaving a breathable surface.

When you prevent water from penetrating a building’s surface, biological stains cannot develop into the pores of the stone, thus preventing the need to clean the stone as frequently. Without precast protection, expect to need clean the building every 1 to 2 years. Other sealing products may still allow water and impurities to infiltrate the precast surface. Seal the precast with Leachstop® and there will not be a need to clean the building for at least 10 years.
